The Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation (KHYF) strives to provide students and teachers of Yoga with the highest quality Yoga education and training. Towards this end, the KHYF has conceived and planned four levels of certification - Yoga Teacher, Yoga Teacher Trainer, Yoga Therapist, and Yoga Therapist Trainer.

Each of these training certifications is carefully designed under the guidance of TKV Desikachar, and will be implemented with a purpose to provide quality education to all graduating students. The programs are designed to present yoga in its holistic form and equip students to use the vast range of yogaís tools to serve the needs of those seeking yoga.

All courses will be conducted by KHYF-certified teachers. These teachers have been training Yoga Teachers and Therapists for several years and have extensive experience both as educators and as teachers and therapists in the field of Yoga. Since Yoga is about personal and spiritual evolution, certain basic moral and ethical standards must be maintained and followed. It is expected that KHYF instructors will model these high standards and communicate with students in a way that reflects their commitment to the principles of yama and niyama.

Mentoring: the heart of the KHYF program

Apart from the classroom experience they will have their trainers, emphasis is also placed on the role of a mentor, will guide and help each graduating student. The heart of the training program is the studentís relationship with a mentor. This element of the KHYF program reflects the traditional style of teaching Yoga, where each student was taught on a one-to-one basis by their teacher. This allowed the teacher to tailor the curriculum to the needs and abilities of the student.

Every KHYF student will have a mentor with whom they meet regularly. This student-mentor relationship is important to the experience of the training and will be a crucial component in the studentís evaluation process. Meetings will involve development of a personal practice for the student and continuous review and evolution of that practice. This relationship will also provide the student with direction and support throughout their course of study.
In addition to mentoring from individual mentors, students will be able to access the wide range of study material, articles and features that will form part of the KHYF website. Apart from these, students can also create and participate in discussion forums through the website and can interact and learn from other KHYF students and teachers from around the world.

Currently the KHYF and the KYM are the only two organizations that can offer all levels of courses. However, KHYF certified trainers will offer training programs that will help students become Yoga Teachers and Yoga Therapists. To find a teacher nearest to you, click here.
